Spring 2018 Graduate Commencement Ceremony



The commencement ceremony is a da of pride in every student’s life. Achieving your goal and being rewarded for the efforts are the sweet treats of a person’s life in college. The Spring 2018 Commencement Day at Hofstra University was celebrated on May 20th, 2018. This day marked the graduation of many young talents I their respective fields. Over a hundred students celebrated their big day in the campus of the University. The ceremony began with a few worthy words from the guest of honor followed by the distribution of the graduation degrees to the students of the Master program and the PhD program from different departments, awarding the professors with the excellence awards and ended with several smiling faces of new professionals.
The guest of honor for the Spring 2018 Commencement ceremony was Alan Krueger, PhD, Princeton University professor of economics and public affairs and former chairman of President Barack Obama’s White House Council of Economic Advisers. He served as a member of President Obama’s Cabinet from 2011-2013 and is among the 50 highest-ranked economists in the world, according to Research Papers in Economics. He also served as served as assistant secretary for economic policy and chief economist of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and as chief economist at the U.S. Department of Labor.

Welcoming the New Faculty – Dr. Chanapong Rojanaworarit, Assistant Professor, Department of Health Professions, School of Health Professions and Human Services

Dr. Chanapong Rojanaworarit is joining Hofstra University’s MPH program as an assistant professor in the Department of Health Professions, School of Health Professions and Human Services. Dr. Rojanaworarit is a doctor of dental surgery with an MPH in health system development and a PhD in Public health. He also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship in the department of Environmental Medicine and Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. He has worked as a dentist since 2007. He has also taught epidemiology since 2013 as a lecturer in the Department of Epidemiology, Faculty of Public Health, Mahidol University, Thailand.   He has experience in teaching several courses at master and doctoral levels including principles of epidemiology, statistical methods in epidemiology, public health research methodology, oral epidemiology, and dental public health. PHAA Alumni Spotlight : Dr. Johanna Andrews (MPH '14)

                                                                         Dr. Johanna E. Andrews is a Social and Behavioral Health Researcher and a proud graduate of the first graduating class of Hofstra’s Master of Public (MPH) program. She has over ten years of experience conducting interdisciplinary research studies and leading diverse research teams at the academic and health system level. Her research focuses on racial and ethnic health disparities, food insecurity, healthy food access for communities of color, and stress and coping processes for persons of color in the United States. Dr. Andrews received a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from Hofstra University. Her desire to lead community and population health interventions led her to the MPH degree. After conducting informational interviews with various public health professionals, including Hofstra’s MPH Program Director Dr. Corinne Kyriacou, she discerned that this degree was a perfect fit for her and subsequently
