National Public Health Week 2018 Health Fair by Stephan Joseph

The national Public Health Week 2018 - Health Fair, April 11 2018
Being a part of Hofstra University’s 6th Annual National Public Health Week Event series was an amazing experience. The majority of my work was geared towards the planning and implementation the Public Health Fair. Nearly 40 health-related vendors were included in the Health Fair. Attendees had the opportunity to speak with health professionals from local health and community-based organizations, participate in health screenings, interactive health demonstrations and exercise classes. Attendees included high school undergrad and graduate students, and community members.  I believe this fair was important not only to showcase what these organizations do within the community but; to raise awareness and increase knowledge on campus and in the surrounding communities, about critical public health issues. Having coordinating with all of the vendors, these organizations are very eager to educate and improve health of the people in the communities they serve. A fair of this magnitude would seem very stressfully for one person, but through the guidance of Hofstra University Master of Public Health program directors Dr. Corinne Kyriacou and Dr. Martine Hackett, I was able to implement a successful Public Health Fair.
