From Hofstra MPH to Fidelis Care – Alumni Experience by Lauren Doodian
Since
graduating from Hofstra University’s MPH program, I have had so many wonderful
opportunities to further and enhance my career in the field of public health.
Between becoming a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and presenting
my culminating experience project, Exploring the Feasibility, Benefits,
and Challenges of Implementing an Intergenerational Time Bank on Long Island:
Phase I, to a Nassau County legislator and a director of a local
senior center, I’ve been able to see public health in action with my very own
research. In June, I was offered a position as a Value-Based Payment Analyst at
Fidelis Care located in Rego Park, NY. My team helps provider groups from
across New York State become contracted with Fidelis, which allows the groups
to switch over to the value-based payment method of Medicaid reimbursement. In
my day to day, I present our VBP model to potential provider groups, review
draft contracts, prepare data for monthly financial and quality reports, and
assist with additional provider relations measures throughout their entire
contract and implementation process. In a couple of months, I will also be
traveling to San Diego to present my culminating experience project at APHA
with Dr. Kyriacou, who has been an amazing mentor throughout my entire journey
from student to professional.
